Sources said the water level has touched 1,158 ft in the lake, prompting precautionary measures downstream.

On July 10, 2023, the UT Engineering Department had to open two of the three floodgates of Sukhna Lake after the water level crossed the danger mark of 1,163 ft.

The water level had reached 1,164 ft, the highest ever at the time. After the water level crossed the danger mark in 2020, Sukhna Choe caused widespread flooding in the low-lying areas of Zirakpur and Baltana alongside the Sukhna Choe.
