In a proud moment for the city, former international badminton coach from Chandigarh, Surinder Mahajan has been appointed manager of the senior Indian badminton team that will participate in the Asian Badminton Championship in Malaysia’s Selangor from February 13 to 18.

Mahajan, who is joint secretary, Badminton Association of India, and general secretary, Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA) and a senior coach, had earlier also accompanied various Indian teams as a coach and manager.

The Indian team for the Asian Championship includes PV Sindhu, Lakshay Sen, HS Pranoy, Kidambi Srikanth, Chirag Shetty, Ashiwini Ponnapa and many other players.

“The BAI has chosen the best team and our players are in good form. I am sure, the Indian shuttlers will bag a rich of medals,” said Mahajan.

CBA president Priyank Bharti said: “His contribution to badminton is excellent.”
