Suspended Ropar DIG Bhullar booked under Excise Act after recovery of 108 liquor bottles from farmhouse

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had seized 108 bottles of liquor — during a search of his farmhouse located in Bondli village in Samrala. The Samrala police registered the case on Saturday, confirmed Samrala DSP Tarlochan Singh.
The FIR was registered at the Samrala police station on the statement of CBI inspector Romipal. A case was registered under Sections 61 (pertaining to unlawful activities such as possession or transport of intoxicants in violation of the Act), 1 and 14 (which grants officers the power to summon individuals for evidence in proceedings related to the act) of the Excise Act. In addition to the 108 bottles of liquor, the CBI also recovered 17 bullets, but charges of Arms Act were not added in the FIR as it was yet to be verified if the bullets were of a licensed weapon.

It is learnt that after the seizure, the CBI formally handed over the confiscated liquor to Excise Inspectors Vijay Kumar and Major Singh on Saturday, in the presence of Samrala police officials. During searches at his residence, the CBI had seized Rs 7.50 crore in cash and 2.5 kg of gold jewellery.
It had also recovered 26 luxury watches of brands such as Rolex and Rado, documents pertaining to more than 50 immovable properties held in the names of family members and suspected benami entities, locker keys and details of multiple bank accounts, four firearms along with 100 live cartridges.
