SUV driver held for crushing youth to death in Panchkula

The incident took place on the bridge in front of Sector 12 at around 1 am. The driver of the black Mahindra XUV fled from the spot after hitting the victims, who have been identified as Gurpreet and Sahil.
Both the victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, where doctors declared Gurpreet dead.
The victim’s family was informed and the body was handed over to them after a postmortem.
Providing further details, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta said the Sector 2 outpost in-charge, Tajinder Pal Singh, set up a checkpoint near Majri Chowk bridge and intercepted the suspected vehicle.
Further police interrogation confirmed the driver’s involvement in the incident, following which he was taken into custody. The police have also impounded the accused’s Mahindra XUV car.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Sections 125(A), 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being carried out by the Sector 14 police team.
