Swachh Survekshan: Mohali civic body climbs 31 rungs, placed 82nd

The Mohali Municipal Corporation has been placed 82nd in the more than 1 lakh population category of the Swachh Survekshan-2023 rankings. The civic body secured the first position in the state among 16 urban local bodies with a population of over 1 lakh.
The ranking is based on citizen feedback and field assessment of the cleanliness survey.
The Mohali civic body was at the 113th rank in 2022. It was placed 157th in 2020, 153rd in 2019 and 109th in 2018. Despite spending more than Rs 18 crore every year on cleanliness, mechanical sweeping is yet to start in the city.
The Kurali urban local body fared well as it bagged 406th place in the category of cities with less than 1 lakh population. It bagged second spot in zonal rankings (cities with 25,000 to 50,000 population) and third position in the state ranking.
The Nayagaon urban local body, on the other hand, fared poorly with the 1,635th rank. The Nayagaon MC scored 0% in waste generation versus processing and 25% in cleanliness of public toilets.
The Mohali MC officials acknowledged the invaluable contributions of sanitation workers in making this accomplishment possible.
MC Commissioner Navjot Kaur said, “The state award reflects the constant support of the citizens and stakeholders to transform Mohali into a clean and sustainable city.”
