Swaraj, Neev claim doubles title at tennis tournament

The pair of Swaraj Dhamdhere and Neev Kothari overpowered a tough challenge by Shreyas Dogial and Dhruv Ghanghas to win the boys’ U-18 final of the CLTA-AITA National Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Complex.

The title-winning pair faced a 2-6 defeat in the opening set, but gave a tough fight in the second by recording a stunning 7-6(6) victory. In the match point, the pair recorded a 10-7 win for the title.

Meanwhile, the team of Nainika Reddy Bendram and Riya Sachdeva defeated Afreen Rahil and Ranjana Sangram 6-2 7-6(2) to claim the girls’ U-18 final.

In the girls’ U-18 quarterfinals, ninth seed Haryana’s Sherry Sharma stunned second seed Delhi’s Riya Sachdeva to march ahead. Sherry started with a 6-4 win, but lost the next 4-6. In the decider, she maintained a good show to return with a 6-3 verdict. Punjab’s Ranjhana Sangram ousted Delhi’s Manshi Singh 6-4 6-4, Shagun Kumari outplayed Pal Vipulkumar Upadhyay 7-6(5) 6-2 and Nainika Naren Bendram defeated Iha Joshi 6-3 6-2.

In the boys’ U-18 category, Swaraaj Shailendra Dhamdhere of Maharashtra defeated Vivaan Bidasaria in straight sets 6-3 6-2 to march into the semis, while Punjab’s Armaan Walia defeated Haryana’s Dhruv Ghanghas 6-4 6-0. Ribhav Saroha ousted Anuj Tashildar 6-2 6-2, and Nithin Barath KS of Karnataka struggled hard before recording a 6-2 1-6 6-2 win over Megh Maulik Patel.
