A day after the UT Administration issued an advisory for tackling seasonal influenza A (H1N1), also known as swine flu, a case was reported in the city today.

According to sources at the office of the Director, Chandigarh Health Department, the condition of the patient was said to be stable and he had been kept under home observation. “He has not been admitted to any hospital. He is being treated in isolation at home,” said the source. The patient is a doctor.

“There’s no need to panic. The residents should take proper care. In case of fever, headache, cough and cold or viral fever, a patient should consult a doctor,” said Dr Suman Singh, Director, Health Services.

“The seasonal influenza A (H1N1) is a viral disease and is self-limiting, but if symptoms do not subside, it should be reported to the nearest health facility,” said a doctor.

He added, “When a swine flu patient sneezes, the virus enters the bodies of people standing within a distance of three feet.”
