Talent, tenacity key to society's rise, says Haryana CM at Tribune event

Excellence, resilience and public service took the centre stage today as The Tribune Achievers Awards-2025 celebrated distinguished individuals and institutions for their transformative impact on society.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who was the chief guest at the event to honour 50 leading enterprises, innovators, professionals and institutions from across the region, commended the awardees for embodying “the spirit of hard work, creativity and public commitment that continues to strengthen the nation”.

In his address, Saini said, “The awardees are beacons of light who inspire the youth. Their journeys show that when talent is coupled with tenacity, society rises as a whole.” He urged the achievers to mentor the next generation, calling them symbols of determination and social responsibility.

He praised The Tribune’s 144-year legacy and highlighted a defining moment in its history — the uninterrupted publication of the newspaper during Partition, printed in Lahore on August 14, 1947, and in Shimla on August 15, 1947. Calling it a “remarkable feat of institutional courage”, he paid tribute to the vision of founder Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, who donated his entire estate to the Trust and insisted on structural safeguards to uphold editorial independence. Saini reaffirmed Haryana’s commitment to honouring merit through state awards such as the Haryana Vigyan Ratna, Sushma Swaraj Award, Bhim Award and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Good Governance Award.

Justice SS Sodhi (retd), Gurbachan Jagat and Paramjit Singh Patwalia, members of The Tribune Trust; Jyoti Malhotra, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune Publications; Naresh Kaushal, Editor, Dainik Tribune; Arvinder Pal Kaur, Editor, Punjabi Tribune; and Amit Sharma, General Manager, The Tribune Publications, were also present.

Opening the ceremony, Justice Sodhi celebrated the legacy and mission of The Tribune, saying it was envisioned “not merely as a newspaper, but as a mission to serve society with independence and integrity”. He emphasised that The Tribune, free from commercial or corporate ownership, occupied a unique space in India’s media landscape.

“For 144 years, The Tribune and its sister publications Dainik Tribune and Punjabi Tribune have stood for fairness, responsibility and fearless journalism,” he said. “Time and again, we have celebrated individuals who rose from modest beginnings to achieve remarkable milestones. The Tribune Achievers Awards recognise this spirit of excellence,” he said.

The ceremony — presented by Mankind’s HealthOK, with Aarv Developers as associate partner and AlBasir Group of Industries as the gifting partner — honoured exceptional achievers from across sectors, including education, medicine, science, public administration, entrepreneurship, arts, community leadership and social service. Their journeys, marked by resilience and determination, were celebrated as examples of how individual excellence strengthens society at large. The evening highlighted moving stories of people who built institutions, empowered marginalised communities, innovated in their fields and demonstrated outstanding leadership despite challenges.

The selection reflected The Tribune’s commitment to recognising not only professional success but also social impact and ethical leadership—values that echo the principles on which the Trust was founded.

The CM emphasised the importance of mentorship and intergenerational support, saying, “An achiever’s true success lies not only in personal accomplishment, but in how many lives they uplift. If every achiever guides even 10 young people, society’s direction can be transformed.”

In his concluding remarks, Amit Sharma extended gratitude to the chief guest and acknowledged the Trust led by its president NN Vohra for guidance. He commended the awardees for their achievements and the values they represented.
