Thakur honours GCG-42 students for academic excellence

Postgraduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, celebrated its 41st annual prize distribution function on Friday in a ceremony blending tradition and academic recognition. The event commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting and a devotional Saraswati Vandana performance by music students. Chief guest Anurag Singh Thakur, Member of Parliament and former Union Minister, presided over the function alongside Principal Prof (Dr) Binu Dogra, who presented the college’s annual report highlighting their recent NAAC reaccreditation with an ‘A’ grade.

The ceremony recognised 270 outstanding students, including 28 rolls of honour and 25 college colours recipients. Top honours went to Avneet Kaur (B.Sc. medical) as best graduate, receiving the Laxmi Devi Memorial Cash Award, and Milli (MA sociology) as best postgraduate. Special awards were presented to Nandini Yadav (best blood donor), Stanzin Dedsal (best NCC cadet) and Nikita Sharma and Simran (NSS volunteers).

In his address, Thakur emphasised the transformative power of women's education in nation-building, congratulating all awardees for their achievements. The formal proceedings concluded with Vice Principal Abha Sudarshan’s vote of thanks, marking another successful year of celebrating academic excellence at the institution.
