The suspects in their early 20s had earlier snatched a mobile phone from a bike-borne youth, Parav, a resident of Sector 87, after hitting his vehicle from behind with a car near Aerocity on October 5. They thrashed him with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing with his phone.

Those arrested have been identified as Prabhjot Singh (23), Nitish Sharma (19), and Akashdeep Sharma (19). A case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station.

In his complaint to the police, Ashok Kumar, a resident of Dhali, said he had come to the airport to pick up a client around 5am. He had parked his car on the service road and was taking a nap when the armed trio broke the windowpane of the vehicle. They took the keys from the driver and fled with the vehicle.

They were arrested from Chandigarh and Banur on October 12. The HP registered taxi was recovered from Housefed flats with a fake number plate.
