According to information, the incident occurred around 2.30 am. The SUV bearing a Haryana registration number was going towards Ambala. In order to save a stray dog, the driver rammed the vehicle into the median. The vehicle then crossed the divider and one of its tyres burst.

The SUV driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a bus coming from the Ambala side. Meanwhile, a Maruti Brezza coming from the Ambala side hit the CTU bus from the rear. Even though the airbags of the Creta opened after the accident, its driver sustained serious injuries. The passersby bought him out of the SUV and rushed him to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh, for treatment. A passenger of the CTU bus and an occupant of the Brezza were also injured in the mishap.
