Three fresh incidents of illegal mining have surfaced in the area under the Majri police station.

Akash Aggarwal, Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, Mohali, said field officials of the department found illegal mining activities at Burana, Lubangarh and Salempur Khurd. Following this, three cases have been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 4 (1) and 21 (1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act-1957 at the Majri police station.

Aggarwal said about 3.42 lakh cubic feet of illegal mining of earth was found at Burana, while at Lubangarh, about 1.05 lakh cubic feet of gravel and sand extraction was spotted. About 22,700 cubic feet of gravel and sand have been illegally mined at Salempur Khurd.

As many as five cases of illegal mining have been registered at the Majri police station in the past one week.
