Three unidentified youths snatched three mobile phones at knifepoint from a truck driver on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway near Bakarpur during the wee hours of Tuesday.

The victim, who has been identified as Rehmat, a truck driver from Bengaluru, had come to deliver electric vehicles at Chandigarh.

In his complaint, the victim told the police that he halted to take rest near an eatery and slept inside the truck on his way back after making the delivery.

Two youths knocked on the window while another broke the glass from the other side and entered the truck.

They snatched the mobile phones and took the security code to Rehmat’s UPI applications. The robbers also slashed the victim’s hand with a knife before fleeing from the spot.

The driver was taken to the Dera Bassi hospital for treatment, following which a police complaint was registered. The police said an investigating has been launched into the matter.

Gunshot fired at cop

Two unidentified bike borne youths fired a gunshot at cops near the Shahheed Bhagat Singh market in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, around 9 pm on Tuesday.

The victim, Constable Gaurav Kumar, was posted at Kharar City police station. He escaped unhurt in the incident, which took place in a busy area.

The police said they were on a lookout for youths in connection with a snatching in Mataur area. The cop said he had just left his home for duty when he reached near Sanatan Dharam temple, he saw two youths on a bike wearing helmet but the registration plate of the vehicle was missing.

When he tried to stop them, they fired at him.
