Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsAlleging police inaction on her complaint, a resident of Aerocity, Preet Verma, filed a complaint at the office of the Special DGP (Community Affairs Division), Transgender Cell in Phase-VII, stating that she was beaten, looted and locked inside a bathroom by three persons on November 24 and officials at a nearby police station had not taken any action against the accused.
Complaints to the Mohali SSP were also not addressed properly, Verma alleged.
Aerocity SHO Amandeep Kamboj said, “The investigating officer was probing the case.”
“I am a transwoman who was looted, beaten, verbally abused, locked in a bathroom and threatened to be killed at my rented accommodation in Aerocity by three men, who came to my house on the pretext of offering some work. One of them introduced himself as a doctor and another said his name was Karan. My money, jewellery and phone was looted. They also took the phones of two girls, who live on the first floor of the house. Before leaving, the miscreants tied and locked us in the bathroom,” she stated in her complaint. Police scanned footage from cameras in the vicinity and found there were two persons waiting for the miscreants.
