The Chandigarh Youth Congress today gifted a cycle to Ritu, a promising boxer who has been forced to work at a parking lot in Sector 22 due to poor financial condition.

Youth Congress boosted Ritu’s morale by promising to take up her case with the UT Administration.

Chandigarh Youth Congress president Manoj Lubana said, “It is shocking that someone like Ritu who had extreme potential has been neglected and ignored to such an extent by the Chandigarh Administration.”

Yesterday, Chandigarh Tribune had highlighted the plight of Ritu, once a promising boxer and volleyball player who represented the city in two SGFI nationals.

“The Mayor also came and did a photo shoot but didn’t provide her with any real benefits or grant her any relief. If some attention had been paid to her at that time, today she might have been one among those athletes who won a medal for India in the Olympics,” said Lubana.

“She should be accommodated by the Chandigarh Administration as a constable in the Home Guards or any other suitable department,” he said. — TNS
