The girls’ netball team of The Tribune School, Sector 29, and the boys’ handball team of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, won the respective titles at the 6th Tribune Trust Sports Festival, which concluded today.

In the netball final, the Tribune School eves posted a 15-9 win over Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26. Annu scored 11 points, while Seerat added four to the winners’ tally. Navaya (7 points) and Prabhnoor (2 points) were the main scorers for the Sector 26 team. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, logged a 7-3 win over Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, to claim third position. Teena (6 points) and Riya (1 point) scored for the winners, while Chetan scored three points for the Sector 19 team. Samaira from Sacred Heart was declared the best defender and Annu Yadav from The Tribune School the best attacker of the tournament.

In the handball final, the Sector 8 team outclassed the hosts 18-3. Harmeet and Abhindan scored four goals each for the winning side, while Karan and Raghav netted three each. Dev gathered two pints, and Mohameed Hamil, along with Abhishek, scored one each. For the hosts, Ansh netted eight goals, followed by Hemansh (2 goals) and one goal each by Mehbubal, Vansh and Adarsh. Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Sector 30, claimed third position by logging a 22-16 win over St Xavier’s School, Sector 44. Eknoor (10 points), Abhik (6 points) and Hasvir (4) scored the majority of the goals for the side, while Suryanshi and Anmoldeep netted one each.

For the Sector 44 team, Anhad netted eight points, while Manmeet gathered four and Kuber added two to the tally. Ansh and Sparsh scored one goal each. Karan from DAV Sector 8 was declared the best player, whereas Gursehaj Singh from The Tribune School was recognised as the best goal keeper of the tournament. Dr Mahender Singh, Joint Director, Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, encouraged students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship. Principal Rani Poddar congratulated the winners and expressed gratitude to the organising committee, participants and supporters.
