Tricity stays warm, humid; rain on the cards: Weatherman

The Tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula experienced warm and humid weather on Saturday with maximum temperature settling in the lower 30s, slightly below normal.

The Chandigarh observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8°C and a minimum of 23.2°C, both nearly 0.2°C below normal. Relative humidity oscillated between 89% (maximum) and 47% (minimum), making the day feel sticky despite no rainfall being reported in the past 24 hours. At the Chandigarh airport observatory, the day’s high stood at 32.8°C and the minimum 22.4°C, with dry conditions prevailing.

In Mohali, the AWS (automatic weather station) logged a maximum of 33°C and minimum of 23.4°C, close to seasonal averages. Panchkula too recorded similar conditions, with skies remaining partly cloudy and humidity levels high.

While the Tricity stayed dry today, the IMD has forecast unsettled weather over the next few days. According to the five-day outlook, partly cloudy to generally cloudy skies with chances of thunder and rain are expected on October 5, 6 and 7, while October 8 may see partly cloudy skies and October 9 is likely to be mainly clear. Daytime temperatures are predicted to dip significantly with rain activity, as the maximum is expected to slide from 35°C on Sunday to 26–27°C on October 6–7 before gradually rising again to around 30°C by October 9. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 22°C on Sunday and 18°C by the end of the forecast period.

The IMD bulletin also indicated that light rain had occurred at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana, though the Tricity remained dry. Officials said the weather pattern suggests a temporary relief from the warm and humid conditions as the week progresses.
