A 40-year-old driver was killed when a tyre of his truck burst and the vehicle rammed into a roadside pillar near the Chhatt light point this afternoon.

The driver, Manoj Sharma, a resident of Sonepat, was reportedly employed with Balaji Transport. Local residents said the speeding truck rammed into the pillar and the container kept behind crushed the driver’s cabin.

A member of the SSF team said it took around 45 minutes to extricate the body. It was shifted to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. The police said the truck, laden with lime, was coming from Haryana and on its way to Mohali.
