The police have booked two Haryana-based immigration agents for trafficking, misappropriation of property and cheating a Khera, Sialba Majri resident Taranveer Singh of Rs 45 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the US. Taranveer was among the 67 Punjab deportees, who arrived at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, by a special flight on Saturday night.

The accused have been identified as Ambala natives Gurjinder Singh Antal and his partner Mukul. Sources said the police reached Ambala to nab the accused. Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek said, “A complaint was received after which action was taken. All other US deportees have been asked to meet the police and discuss their case tomorrow.”

According to the complainant’s statement, the duo was introduced to him by his friend Gursharan Singh. He had handed over his passport to the duo on July 10, 2024, and was promised to be sent legally to the US. Taranveer’s father paid Rs 18 lakh to the duo when he reached Colombia where he was held up for four months. He was later taken to Mexico after which agents demanded the remaining amount.
