Two men were arrested for allegedly robbing a provision store at gunpoint in Fatehpur village, Sector 20, last evening.

The suspects, identified as Rakesh Kumar of Baltana (Zirakpur) and Indrajeet of Budanpur, Sector 16, were produced in a local court and remanded in two-day police custody.

The complainant, Ravi Kansal, told the police that the incident took place around 8.30 pm when he and his wife were engaged in accounting for the day’s business.

“I was sitting at the cash counter, two men suddenly turned up. While one pointed a gun towards my head, the other man aimed at my wife with his gun. I gave them Rs40-50,000 from the money box. One of them, in his attempt to escape, fell down,” the complainant said. The suspect was caught by people at the spot was handed over to the police.

The second suspect was later also rounded up from Labour Chowk in the late evening. — TNS
