Two Covid-19 cases in Chandigarh

While several regions in India are witnessing a fresh rise in Covid-19 cases, Chandigarh has remained relatively unaffected, with just two active cases currently under monitoring. Both patients are recovering at home isolated from other family members, said health officials.

Dr Suman Singh, Director of Health Services, said the city was fully prepared to respond to any rise in cases. “There is no cause for panic. All necessary arrangements are in place and we are keeping a close watch on developments,” she said.

Medical experts at the PGIMER have reiterated that most recent cases are mild in nature. However, they have urged caution for high-risk individuals, including senior citizens and those with compromised immunity. In anticipation of any potential surge, the PGIMER has reactivated its specialised COVID wards, including ICUs and High Dependency Units. Critical infrastructure such as oxygen supplies and ventilators have been tested and are ready for deployment.

A Covid patient had died at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH-32) last week. The officials said the case was logged in Punjab records. The deceased, a 39-year-old man originally from UP, worked as a labourer in Ludhiana. He was admitted with acute respiratory distress on May 26 and tested positive the next day.

Prof Sanjay Jain, Dean of Research and Head of Internal Medicine, PGIMER, said, “We are ready to handle any situation. Dedicated COVID beds are available, and our team is fully mobilised to respond swiftly if needed.”

2 more test positive in P’kula

Two new Covid-19 cases were reported from Sectors 20 and 21 in Panchkula on Tuesday, bringing the city’s active case count to six. Except a 77-year-old patient, the other five were under home isolation with mild symptoms.
