Two peddlers arrested with heroin in Panchkula

The police arrested two people, hailing from Himachal Pradesh, for allegedly smuggling heroin.

According to the information, a Crime Branch 19 team led by Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar apprehended the two accused, who have been identified as Naresh Kumar, a 38-year-old resident of Angwah village, Shimla district, and Gaurav Sharma, a 33-year-old resident of Pujarli Ka Kandaghati, Solan district.

The police had received a tip-off police about the two youths, who had purchased heroin from Zirakpur and were selling it in Himachal Pradesh and Panchkula. They were reportedly traveling in a car via Dumping Ground towards Majri Chowk.

Based on the information, the Crime Branch 19 team set up a checkpost near Gaushala in Sector-23 and intercepted their vehicle.

Upon searching the accused’s vehicle, police recovered 13.42 gm heroin.

A case, meanwhile, has been registered against both accused under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Chandimandir Police Station.

They were presented before the court and remanded to three days of police custody. During the period, police aim to identify the main drug supplier and uncover further details about the areas where the accused had been selling heroin.

Notably, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Arya has issued strict directives to completely curb drug trafficking in the district.

Additionally, as part of the “Drug and Violence-Free – My Village, My Pride” campaign, efforts are being made to raise awareness among people about the dangers of drug abuse. Strict action has also been ordered against those involved in drug smuggling in the area.
