Two wholesale shops were gutted in a fire that broke out last night at Garg Complex in Badheri village, Sector 41-D.

According to Sector 38 fire station officials, Pawan Com and Stationers on the ground floor and Sanskriti Fancy Dresses were burnt in the fire. The adjoining shops were partially affected.

A fire call was received at 9.31 pm following which, six fire engines and boozers were pressed into service. Jagtar Singh, station fire officer, Sector 17, and Jasmeet Singh, sub-fire officer, Sector 38 fire station, along with teams, rushed to the spot.

The fire squad, comprising leading fireman Bhupinder Singh, controlled the fire in about four hours. However, the whole operation lasted till 4.30 pm today. A fire official said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. However, it is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. — TNS
