The injured prisoner has been identified as 26-year-old Ritvik Bhardwaj, who is facing trial in an Arms Act case.
The police said the incident occurred around 11.15 am when Ritvik was heading to the dispensary for a medical check-up. Near the main gate of the facility, three inmates — Rajat Tiwari, Sunny and Sukhwinder Singh — allegedly intercepted him and launched an attack. Ritvik reported that Sunny struck him on the head with a sharp, needle-like object, leaving him bleeding. He was taken to the dispensary, where doctors stitched his wound.
Following his complaint and medical evidence, the Sector 49 police have registered a case. All three accused are already in judicial custody in connection with other cases.
Ritvik was one of the two assailants arrested in connection with the September 25 Mohali incident where a gym owner, Vicky, was shot at by bike-borne youths in Phase 2, leaving him critically injured. According to the police, the attack was linked to an old rivalry and Ritvik’s name surfaced as one of the prime shooters. On September 25, Ritvik and his accomplice Aman had also targeted a hotel in Kajheri as a display of intimidation. Both were arrested the same evening by the UT police after CCTV footage confirmed their involvement in the incidents.
Ritvik was also associated with a murder case of 2019, which had already put him under the scanner of both Chandigarh and Mohali police.
