State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Madhvi Kataria today held a review meeting with the Department of Urban Planning to assess the current status of public buildings under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan (Accessible India Campaign) and explore further measures to make Chandigarh a more inclusive city for persons with disabilities (PwDs).

The meeting focused on ensuring compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which mandates standards for accessibility in physical environments, transportation and communication systems.

During the comprehensive review, the team discussed accessibility standards across healthcare, transport facilities, cultural centres, sports complexes and residential facilities designed specifically for PwDs engaged in sports.
