The UT will be promoted as a destination for non-polluting industries, informed UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore during the sixth Governing Council Meeting of the NITI Aayog.

“Through its pioneering projects in the key sectors for self-reliance, Chandigarh has emerged as the flag-bearer of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision and is taking strides towards becoming a destination for industries like information and technology, R&D institutions, startups, medical and adventure tourism,” said Badnore, while participating in a virtual meeting of the Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The meeting was held to discuss infrastructure, growth, health and nutrition among other issues with the state governments and UT administrations.

A senior UT official said the Administration had taken a number of initiatives to upgrade the infrastructure in the city to boost economic growth in the region. “Chandigarh has emerged as a regional hub in the areas of service industry, education, health, information technology, etc,” he said, adding that the City Beautiful had also ranked first in India in the Human Development Index, quality of life and e-readiness.

The official said various initiatives were taken by the Administration to improve the governance by involving participation of citizens in the decision-making.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister asked the states to form committees to reduce regulations which were no longer relevant in the wake of technology.
