Sanjay Tandon, a former Chandigarh BJP president, is the current association president and he has completed three consecutive terms, including two after the UTCA secured affiliation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019.

Close aide may replace Tandon

n Sanjay Tandon is likely to be replaced as the UTCA president by one of his close aides who was also a life member of the association, said sources. The other office-bearers of the cricket body would also be picked during the annual general meeting, which is likely to be held on October 26 or 28. It is to be seen whether the selection would be unanimous, as in the previous terms, or through voting.

The sources claimed that Tandon was likely to be replaced by one of his close aides who was also a life member of the UTCA. The other office-bearers of the cricket body would also be picked during the meeting and it would be interesting to witness whether the selection would be done unanimously, as in the previous terms, or through voting, said an official. The last house was chosen in August 2022 and the meeting was attended by 65 members, who picked Tandon with consensus.

A majority of the UTCA life members, who have the voting rights, are either relatives, employees or business associates of the present office-bearers. The association has 86 life members, among them the parents of a few cricketers who have been playing for UTCA-Chandigarh in the national circuit.

In 2024, Yuvraj Mahajan, who was the UTCA joint secretary in the previous term, was elected as the vice-president, while former treasurer Devendra Sharma was elevated as the general secretary. Ravinder Singh was elected as the joint secretary, while Alok Krishna got the post of treasurer. All members were elected unopposed.

“New office-bearers are likely to be picked during the meeting. However, the exact scenario will emerge only after an official confirmation. The agenda mainly revolves around the UTCA’s achievements. It is yet to be made public,” said the sources.

Last month, the BCCI appointed Tandon as a member of the governing council of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). He is also the Chairman of the standing committee of UT Administrator’s Advisory Council on Sports.
