A BBA student of Chandigarh University, Sumit Chitra (19), reportedly jumped to death from an 80-foot water tank in Bhago Majra, Kharar, today. The victim, a native of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, stayed in a PG accommodation in Kharar.

He was rushed to the Kharar subdivisional hospital where he died during treatment. Chitra, the only son of his parents, was reportedly mentally disturbed for the past sometime due to money matters. He was staying with his friends in Modern Valley, Khanpur.

In another such incident, a 24-year-old woman, mother of two, reportedly hanged herself at her home in Preet Nagar area on Gulabgarh Road. Lakhodevi, a migrant, lived with her husband and children in a rented accommodation. No suicide note was found.

The police said the victim’s husband, Dinesh Kumar, a daily wage earner, and her relatives could not be contacted. The police shifted the body to the mortuary of the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital.
