According to the police, complainant Ramphal Kataria, Labour Inspector, reported that Shiv Kumar, who ran a tea stall, had employed a minor boy. The police said acting on the complaint, a case under Section 374 (unlawful compulsory labour) of the IPC and under Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, had been registered at the Sector 36 police station. CRPF blood donation camp
Chandigarh: The Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 51 Battalion organised a blood donation camp as part of its 81st anniversary celebrations. In all, 30 units of blood were collected. K Vijay Kumar, Inspector General, North-West Sector, appreciated the efforts of the unit’s officers and jawans in holding the event. Medical camp at MCM COLLEGE
Chandigarh: The medical committee of the MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, organised a medical camp, in collaboration with Fortis Hospital, Mohali. More than 500 members of staff and students participated in the camp wherein comprehensive health check-up were offered. Tests such as ECG, BP, blood sugar and bone mineral density were conducted on the occasion. Principal Dr Nisha Bhargava congratulated the committee on the success of the camp. TNS
Employment opportunities
Chandigarh: The Placement Cell of the Government College of Education, Sector 20, organised a workshop for students of BEd, MEd and Diploma for Guidance and Counselling regarding registration of college students on the national career service portal and to create awareness regarding employment opportunities. Dr Anurag Sankhian and Dr Neelam Paul were the organisers of the programme. The programme was organised, in collaboration with the Regional Employment Exchange, Chandigarh. Principal Dr Renu Verma welcomed the guests. Resource persons for the day were Sanjeeda Beri, Regional Employment Officer, and Meenakshi Goyal, Sub-Regional Employment Officer. They informed the students about the working of employment exchanges and their role in generating employment. Students were informed about various websites and mobile applications through which they can seek job opportunities. TNS
‘Earn while you learn’ at USOL
Chandigarh: The University School of Open Learning (USOL), PU, has given work opportunities to its students under the ‘Earn while your Learn’ scheme. Although the scheme was initiated for students and research scholars of regular departments, Prof Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, has permitted students of distance learning to be part of the initiative. In all, 40 students applied under the scheme. The Academic Committee approved the selection of 15 members as per norms in this regard. The services of these students would be used for library, IQAC and data entry. TNS
Special lecture on Urdu
Chandigarh: The Department of Urdu organised a special lecture on ‘How to read and write Urdu novels and stories’ by Dr Renu Behl, an Urdu writer. She discussed a popular story by her, ‘Kirpa’, with the students and answered their question about various aspects of the story. Dr Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the Urdu Department, said a writer was essentially a product of society and was always aware of the prevalent problems. He also dicussed Dr Renu Behal’s novel ‘Mere Hone Mein Kya Burai Hai’. TNS
Seized drugs destroyed
Panchkula: The local police on Friday destroyed drugs, including heroin (67.42 gm), ganja (54.98 kg) and charas (400 gm), seized in 24 cases registered under the Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The seized drugs were destroyed at Raipur Rani in the presence of Panchkula Police Commissioner Saurabh Singh, DCP Mohit Handa and other senior officials. TNS
Two booked for credit card theft
Zirakpur: Two youths have been booked for allegedly stealing a credit card of a resident of this town and using it to purchase gold from a jewellery shop. The victim, Aditya Kamboj, discovered the theft when he received text messages on his mobile phone about the purchases made through his credit card. On his complaint, the police registered a case against Harwinder Pal Singh and Amandeep Singh. Further probe was on in the case, the police said. OC
3 hurt in separate road mishaps
Ambala: Three persons sustained serious injuries in separate road mishaps in different parts of the district reported during the past 24 hours, the police officials said on Friday. According to the police, a toll plaza employee Ankit, of Naggal, near here was injured when a speeding truck hit him at Saini toll plaza in Naggal. In a separate mishap, Aditya of Ambala City sustained serious injuries when a motorcycle hit his scooter near SP residence in Ambala City. In another accident, a woman of Patiala was injured after a speeding car hit a motorcycle on which she was riding pillion with her son Shankay in Panjokhra. The police have registered separate cases against the accused. TNS
Three arrested for assault
Ambala: The district police have arrested three persons – Kuldeep Singh of Shahzadpur and his two women accomplices – for assaulting and threatening a local woman with dire consequences, the police officials said here on Friday. According to the police, a local woman had reported to the police that the accused assaulted her and threatened her family members with dire consequences at a temple in Shahzadpur on September 11. All the accused were produced before a local court, which ordered to release them on bail, the officials added. TNS
Govt employee alleges assault
Ambala: The district police have arrested Umed Singh of Fatehabad for assaulting and obstructing a government employee in performing his duty, the officials said here on Friday. According to the police, Shamsher Singh, inspector, Ambala State Transport Depot, had reported to the local police on February 9 that the accused had assaulted him and obstructed him in discharging his duty at the state transport depot in Ambala City. The arrested accused was produced before a local court, which ordered to release him on bail, the officials added. TNS
Two proclaimed offenders held
Ambala: The district police have arrested two proclaimed offenders – Kamaljeet Singh of Panjokhra and Manuj of Ambala Cantonment – in separate criminal cases registered against them at Ambala City and Parao police stations in the district, respectively, during the past 24 hours, the officials said today. According to the police, the accused were evading their arrest ever since they were booked by the police following which they were declared proclaimed offenders by the competent courts. Both the arrested fugitives were produced before the local courts, which remanded them to 14-day judicial custody, the officials added. TNS
Two women go missing
Ambala: Two young women had reportedly gone missing from their respective places in separate incidents reported to the district police during the past 24 hours, the officials said here on Friday. According to the police, Satish Kumar, of Ambala Sadar, had reported to the local police that his 21-year-old sister had left home on March 11 but did not return as yet. In a separate incident, a woman of Ambala Sadar had reported that her colleague’s daughter had been missing since March 12. The police have lodged separate missing person’s reports, the police officials added. TNS
