VIP Road residents irked over ‘unending’ sewerage repairs

More than five months after the Zirakpur Municipal Council and the Punjab Water Supplies and Sewerage Department started relaying sewer lines on the VIP Road here, the work is yet to be completed. Meanwhile, commuters and area residents continue to suffer as mud, slush, potholes and open manholes posed safety hazards.

“Together, they could not lay a 2-km long pipeline. Where did Rs 2.65 crore go?” asked the irate VIP road residents. The stretch from Dominos Chowk to Skyline Park is uprooted and riddled with potholes.

Mohali ADC (UD) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal had reviewed the progress of work in February and promised to complete the work in 15 days. However, the work remains incomplete.

Overnight showers turned the VIP Road into a swamp with two-wheelers and a car getting stuck in the slush. Residents flayed Mohali administration officials who had promised to complete it in a month’s time.

Women said dropping children to school on a two-wheeler was fraught with risk. Office-goers said their vehicles get damaged often. Shopkeepers along the stretch complained that their business was ruined as no one wanted to visit their shops as the road was full of slush and foul smell emanated from it.

VIP Road resident Saiyam Pathak took to the social media to highlight the plight: “See it for yourself, the potholes are just everywhere. It has been so many months now, but the road continues to offer a bumpy ride.”
