Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar who is Chancellor of Panjab University will preside over the Global Alumni Meet to be held at the university on Saturday.

The visit comes amid the ongoing protest at the university for the elections to Senate. Senior UT police officials, part of the Advance Security Liasoning (ASL) team, visited the campus and held a meeting with the authorities to discuss security arrangements ahead of the VP’s visit.

Will gherao VP if not allowed to meet

On Tuesday, we submitted a memorandum to the VC demanding a meeting with the Chancellor during his visit to the campus on Saturday. If we are not allowed to meet the Vice-President, we will gherao him. A meeting with the VC has been fixed for tomorrow. —Rimaljot Singh, SATH leader

Apart from the VP, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, who did his MA in Hindi in 1984 from PU, will also attend the event. Moreover, former Uttarakhand Governor and former IPS officer Krishan Kant Paul, former National Disaster Response Force Director General Atul Karwal, former Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and senior journalist Shekhar Gupta will attend the alumni meet.

Students, who are protesting under the banner of Panjab University Bachao Morcha and demanding immediate polls to Senate, have said that they want to meet the Vice-President over the matter and if not allowed, they will gherao him.
