Heaps of garbage, burnt firecracker remains and rotting waste have turned several areas of Panchkula into unsightly dumps.
Sectors 15 and 20 are the worst affected with mounds of mixed waste —plastic bags, discarded decorations, food leftovers and horticulture waste — lying unattended along roadsides and open grounds.

Residents complain that despite repeated complaints, municipal workers have not cleared the accumulated waste since Diwali night.
“It is the same situation every year after the festival,” said SK Nayar, president, Citizens’ Welfare Association, Panchkula, and a resident of Sector 15.
MC officials said that post-Diwali cleaning operations were underway and the backlog would be cleared within 24 hours.
