According to the MC, Aneie Astechno Private Limited has made the lowest bid of Rs 2.33 crore from among a total four companies that participated in the tendering process. Work on the installation of the plant will start soon.

The MC had estimated the system’s cost at Rs 5.22 crore, but it got the bid for less than 50 per cent of the amount in the tendering process.

The plant would segregate, at least, 70 tonnes per day (TPD) mixed garbage into dry and wet waste before processing. The city produces around 500 TPD of waste every day, of which 300 TPD is wet trash, including horticulture waste.

The MC has a capacity to process only 430 TPD of waste every day. So, 70 TDP of mixed waste remains unprocessed.

The plant would result in a big respite to the residents of Dadu Majra, who are facing a lot of health and hygiene issues due to the dump located nearby. The civic body would also install a shredder at the solid waste processing plant to process 5 TPD of dry waste, including bed sheets, car seat covers, mattresses, travel bags and other items, which are at present dumped on the landfill without processing.— TNS
