Wide array of courses at Panjab University

From this academic session, students of over 200 colleges affiliated to Panjab University will have options to take up courses such as creative photography, Indian traditions and values, vedic mathematics, LGBTQ studies, vyavahrik jyotish, nanny care, organic farming, etc. The new courses are being introduced as per the new National Education Policy, said Dean of University Instruction (DUI), Rumina Sethi.

A number of value-added, multi-disciplinary and skill enhancement courses have been designed by various departments of the university, she added. The courses were designed while keeping in mind the requirements of colleges across the state. “earlier, many colleges had designed courses as per their choice. After we started implementing NEP 2020, many colleges asked us to incorporate such courses. We took the suggestions and incorporated many courses into the list after tweaking the syllabi and getting them approved from various bodies.”

According to PU authorities, the colleges can take up the courses as part of curriculum as per their infrastructure and staff capacity. Stating that the implementation will take time as not all colleges have required infrastructure, DUI Sethi assured that this initiative shall benefit students.

“The NEP was implemented on PU campus in 2023. Our 202 affiliated colleges, however, decided to implement it from this year. Our entire team, comprising the NEP coordinator, the NEP Cell, our deans and chairpersons, have been responsible for framing the scheme and syllabus. We conducted many workshops and orientation programmes so that there should be a seamless transmission of the policies,” said DUI Sethi.
