Wildlife conservation lecture held at PU

Chandigarh, February 6

The Department of Zoology at Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy (Chandigarh chapter), organised a distinguished lecture on “Wildlife Conservation Scenario in India”. The lecture was delivered by Prof Mewa Singh, an eminent scientist from the University of Mysore, renowned for his research on animal behaviour and ecology.

Singh, known for his groundbreaking work on three primate species — lion-tailed macaques, bonnet macaques and slender loris — captivated the audience by highlighting their critical roles in India’s forest ecosystems. His pioneering research has not only expanded scientific understanding of these species, but also significantly influenced wildlife conservation policies in various states.

The event was presided over by former Panjab University VC RC Sobti and attended by a host of distinguished guests, including former VC Arun K Grover, Prof Sukhbir Kaur, Prof Sanjeev Puri, Prof MC Sidhu and other prominent scientists from the region. The session was introduced by chairperson Ravinder Kumar and hosted by Indu Sharma.
