Two drug peddlers, including a 37-year-old woman, who has nine cases registered against her in the city, have been arrested by the district crime cell of the UT police with 610.1 gm of heroin.

The police said in view of Republic Day, a naka was laid near the Punjab Roadways workshop in the Industrial Area, Phase I, when a blue car, bearing a Delhi number, approached the naka. The occupants of the car tried to escape after seeing the naka. However, they were nabbed.

The suspects were identified as Sandeep Khatri (40), a resident of Delhi, and Poonam, a resident of Sector 40.

The police said 404.2 gm of heroin was seized from Poonam, while 205.9 gm of heroin was seized from Sandeep.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspects at the Industrial Area police station. The police said the drug was meant to be supplied in Chandigarh and nearby areas.

Poonam has a criminal past with nine cases registered against her in the city, including two cases under the NDPS Act, four of burglary and three cases of theft, registered in different police stations.

2 more drug peddlers held

The operation cell nabbed a 31-year-old man with heroin and banned injections. A team, led by Inspector Amanjot Singh, nabbed the suspect, Amit Kumar, alias Rachu, with 45 gm of heroin and 180 banned injections. He was arrested on the road from Maloya towards Sector 39. A case has been registered at the Maloya police station. Another drug peddler, identified as Amandeep Singh (27), a resident of Mani Majra, was arrested by the district crime cell from Sector 28 with 30 gm of heroin. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station.
