A 28-year-old woman was killed while a youth was severely injured when two vehicles collided head-on on the Kharar flyover in the wee hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Anjana Rani, a resident of Phillaur, and the injured as Gagan. He has been admitted to the PGI.

Investigating officer Narender Kumar said a case under section 279 and 304-A had been registered against the driver of an SUV at the Kharar city police station. Around 2:45 am on Friday, the SUV driver was driving at a high speed on the wrong side when it collided with a car. The SUV driver, who suffered minor injuries, fled the scene. The police are searching for him.

Eyewitnesses said both victims were in a white car. Both vehicles were badly damaged. Such was the impact of the collision that the air bags of the SUV were deployed.

Anjana was sitting on the front passenger seat while her cousin Gagan was driving the car. —
