A local court has sentenced a woman to one-year imprisonment for beating up her stepdaughter. The police had registered a case on December 4, 2017, against Jaspreet Kaur, a resident of Sector 27, under Sections 75 of the JJ (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and Sections 323, 308 of the IPC on the complaint of Manmohan Singh, father of the victim child, at the Industrial Area police station, Chandigarh. After investigation a challan against the accused was presented in the court. Finding prima facie case, charges were framed against the accused to which she pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

Manjit Singh, counsel for the accused, said the woman was falsely implicated. After hearing of the arguments the court convicted the accused.
