Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh has emphasised that women’s empowerment and healthy families are complementary to one another. He stated that where women are empowered, families become more aware, educated and organised and where families are healthy, women are presented with greater opportunities to progress.

The Governor was addressing the “Swasth Nari – Sashakt Parivar” (Healthy Woman – Empowered Family) programme organised by the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare at Indradhanush Auditorium, Panchkula, where he was the chief guest. His wife Mitra Ghosh and the Council’s Vice-Chairperson Suman Saini were present as guests of honour.

Highlighting the need to provide women with rights and opportunities to make them self-reliant, secure and equal participants in society, Ghosh said he was proud that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana was scaling new heights of development.

He noted that initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, women’s safety schemes and the Atmanirbhar Nari programme were all designed to empower women. “It is my privilege to share my thoughts today on such a vital subject as women’s empowerment and healthy families,” he said.

“Our society has always respected women’s role in family, community and nation-building. But today the need of the hour is to transform that respect from words into reality,” he added.

Commending the work of the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare, the Governor said since 1971 the organisation had been carrying out exemplary work for the holistic development of children. Through Bal Bhavans, mini Bal Bhavans, children’s homes and various initiatives such as adoption, special adoption schemes, coaching classes, de-addiction centres and open shelter homes, the council benefits nearly 1.25 lakh children and young people every year.

Earlier, the Governor visited stalls set up by the council and the Health Department, which showcased various welfare schemes, and received information about their initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Suman Saini, Vice-Chairperson of the Council, said the organisation had been providing quality services to children since 1971.
