Chandigarh: Year on, BMW car driver acquitted in mishap case

A local court has acquitted a Sector 35 resident in a case of rash and negligent driving.

On the complaint of one Rohit Kumar, a case was registered against Mehul Khurana under Section 279 of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station on October 22 last year.

The complainant had stated that he was driver by profession and was going from the Sector 47 gurdwara light point towards Tribune Chowk when a speeding BMW car hit his vehicle.

Abhey Joshi, the counsel for the accused, argued that Mehul was falsely implicated. He said even the complainant did not support the case of the prosecution.

The court observed that Rohit was the complainant as well as the sole witness to the alleged incident. During examination, he said he did not see the car driver. The prosecution thus failed to establish its case against the accused beyond any shadow of reasonable doubt. Accordingly, the accused was acquitted of the charge framed against him.
