Youth arrested with illegal weapons in Panchkula

The police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested a youth after recovering a country-made pistol and two other illegal firearms from his possession.

The arrest came in the backdrop of intensified efforts to curb crime in the district. Crime branch officers, along with PCR teams and riders, have been keeping a strict watch on suspicious activities.

The Anti-Narcotics B team was patrolling in the city when they received a tip-off about the accused being in the vicinity of the gaushala (cow shelter) in Khadak Mangoli with illegal weapons. Acting swiftly, the police team reached the location and surrounded the suspect before taking him into custody.

During the investigation, it came to light that the accused is already facing charges in two criminal cases registered in Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh.

The first case was filed under Sections 326, 307, and 341 of the Indian Penal Code , related to causing grievous injury, attempted murder, and wrongful restraint, while another was registered under Sections 118(1), 126(2), 3(5), and 351(2) of Indian Penal Code.

A fresh case, meanwhile, has been registered against the accused at the Sector 7 police station under Section 25(1-A) of the Arms Act. He was produced in court today, where the judge granted one-day police remand.

During the questioning, the police will interrogate the accused further to gather more information regarding the source of the illegal weapons and any potential links to other criminal activities.

The accused was identified as Sanjay Kumar alias Romi, a 24-year-old resident of Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, currently residing in Khadak Mangoli, Old Panchkula.

Upon searching his bag, the police recovered a country-made pistol and two additional illegal firearms.

When questioned, the accused failed to provide any licence or other valid documentation for possessing the weapons.
