A 17-year-old youth was reportedly electrocuted at a transformer in Sector 8 this evening. The victim, Mayank of Sector 7, was the son of the Deputy Director in Enforcement Directorate here.

The police said Mayank left the gym and was heading towards his vehicle.

While crossing the railings next to a transformer, he came into contact with it and was electrocuted.

The police were informed about the incident and the youth was rushed to the Government Multi-speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.

The Sector 3 police have started an investigation to find if there were any lapses. They are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras.

Local residents said there was a small gap between the railings near the transformer which people used to cross over to the other side. “There should be a complete fencing in the area to prevent such mishaps in future,” they said.
