The police have arrested a youth under the POCSO Act for repeatedly raping a mentally challenged girl.

According to the police, the victim reported that her neighbour raped her over the past three-four years and threatened to kill her if she spoke out. She also stated that her mother, who also suffered from mental illness, was unable to assist in filing a complaint at that time. The accused continued to intimidate her, leading to severe psychological trauma. She became pregnant.

DCP Srishti Gupta said as soon as the matter was brought to the notice of the police, a case was registered under Sections 64(2)(m)and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and the accused was arrested on July 16. He was presented before the court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.

The survivor is receiving professional counselling with the assistance of a legal aid counsellor.
