The police said the youths stole the uniform from a courier agency on April 5. Zirakpur DSP Jaspinder Singh said, “A tailor of Behlana, Chandigarh, had sent the packet to the courier agency for delivery to a Gujarat-based officer, but the suspects stole it from there. A case under Section 204 and 303 of the BNS has been registered at the Zirakpur police station and both youth arrested.”

Sukhpreet, a resident of Ashiana Complex in Zirakpur, had earlier claimed to have found the uniform near a local bakery on April 6 night.

The local residents noticed the suspect in uniform roaming suspiciously in the area, after which they informed the authorities. Zirakpur SHO Gagandeep Singh said, “The suspect has been involved in petty crimes in the past and a thorough investigation is being done into the matter.”
