The Bassi Pathana police have arrested Varinder Preet Singh (24), who had murdered his father with scissors for not giving him Rs 5,000 to celebrate his birthday. He was on the run after killing his father.

Bassi Pathana DSP Raj Kumar said after killing his father, Varinder fled the scene. A police team, led by Harkirat Singh, Badali Ala Singh SHO, nabbed him. He would be presented in the court and after getting police remand, a thorough investigation would be conducted.

He said Paramjit’s body was handed over to the family members after postmortem.

Ranjit Kaur, the wife of deceased Paramjit, a resident of Patton village, had reported that her younger son Varinder killed his father when denied Rs 5,000 to celebrate his birthday. He stabbed his father with scissors in the chest and stomach and also injured Kamaljit Singh, who tried to pacify him.
