Most of the Mohali-Chandigarh border junction points were heavily fortified by Mohali cops on one side and CRPF on the other side. Around 4pm, Cabinet minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal came to the YPS Chowk and took a memorandum from the members of the morcha activists.

Senior police officials, including DIG, Mohali SSP and others remained present at the spot to oversee the situation since morning.

DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said, “Cops have been equipped with body mounted cameras for better surveillance and real-time information at the control room.”

Earlier, a large number of workers of various Sikh outfits, ‘radical’ Sikhs, farmer union leaders, workers of SAD(A) and few Muslim activists under the banner of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha today took out a massive protest march from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to give memorandum to Governor for the release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails.

The march started after an ‘ardas’ at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib. Tarsem Singh, father of MP Amrit Pal Singh lodged in Dibrugarh jail, Gurpartap Singh Wadala, convener, SAD (Sudhhar Lehar), Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Surjit Singh Rakhra, former ministers, Pal Singh France of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha, SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli, Santa Singh Umedpuri of SAD (Sudhar Lehar), Ravinder Singh Dhindsa and Mohinder Singh, secretary, SAD(A), participated in the march.

The protesters raised slogans against the Central and state governments and demanded immediate release of Sikh prisoners, who have been languishing in jails despite the fact that they had completed their sentences.

Addressing the mediapersons, leaders of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha said the Union Government was meting out step-motherly treatment to Sikhs as it appeared there were two laws in the country — one for the Sikhs and one for the others. They demanded immediate release of the Sikh prisoners. They urged the Sikhs to support the morcha for the release of these Sikhs.
