Saanvi Sood (10), an avid mountaineer and a student of Yadavindra Public School, was among the 17 awardees of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) who were honoured on the third Veer Baal Divas by President Droupadi Murmu today.

The Rupnagar girl is the youngest to scale three summits — Mt Elbrus, Mt Kilmanjaro and Mt Kosciusko in 2022.

In June 2022, she became the youngest Indian girl to reach the base camp of Mount Everest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with the awardees in the fields of bravery, innovation, science and technology, sports and arts during the programme.

“Every act done for the country is an act of bravery and every child and youth living for the country is a Veer Balak,” he said.

Saanvi, the only awardee from Punjab, told The Tribune, “I dedicate this award to the sacrifice of Sahibazadas Sahib Zorawar Singh and Sahib Fateh Singh, as this is the month, which we dedicate to them.”
