It may take a few days for Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates to fully grasp the magnitude of their achievement — becoming World Champions for the first time in history.

In a thrilling finale at Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa to lift their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup, marking a golden chapter in Indian women’s cricket.

Batting first, India posted a formidable 298 for 7 — the second-highest total ever recorded in a World Cup final. Their bowlers then rose to the occasion, dismissing South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs to seal a memorable 52-run victory. With this triumph, India joined the elite company of Australia, England, and New Zealand as the only teams to have won the coveted trophy.

Social media erupted with joy as fans, former players, and celebrities showered praise on the “Women in Blue.”

Star batter Jemimah Rodrigues shared heartfelt posts on Instagram, including a picture with Smriti Mandhana holding the World Cup trophy, captioned, “Good morning, world.” In another post featuring Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy, she wrote, “Are we still dreaming?”

The long wait for World Cup glory finally ended as Harmanpreet Kaur’s spirited side turned years of heartbreak into triumph. The moment Harmanpreet caught the final ball and fell to her knees in jubilation, decades of emotion came pouring out — a tribute to trailblazers like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, and a promise for the new generation to carry forward their legacy.

Shafali Verma, recalled to the side following Pratika Rawal’s injury, delivered a match-defining performance with a dazzling 87 and two crucial wickets, scripting her redemption on the biggest stage. Deepti Sharma, ever the dependable performer, complemented her efforts with a composed half-century and a five-wicket haul, earning the Player of the Final award.

November 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day Indian women’s cricket reached its summit — a triumph of resilience, unity, and belief.
