Police officials said the accused driver fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle, but was later arrested, adding the vehicle was seized too. The police said an FIR has been registered at the Kherki Daula police station.
According to police, the deceased boy has been identified as Aabish, a native of Pali village in Patna district, Bihar. His family had been living in Bhangrola village in a rented accommodation.
In the complaint filed by the child’s father, the incident occurred on Thursday morning while he was standing near the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Bhangrola and his son Aabish was playing near the PHC gate.
“In the meantime, a black SUV entered the PHC compound at high speed and in a reckless manner and ran over my son Aabish. When I rushed to him, he was already dead — his head was crushed. A crowd gathered at the scene, nd seeing this, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. We immediately informed the police,” the father stated in his complaint.
Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and took the child to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The vehicle was taken into custody.
“We have arrested the accused driver, identified as Gaurav (22), a resident of Shikohpur village,” said Inspector Virender Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Kherki Daula police station. “The accused confessed he was driving at high speed towards the PHC and failed to notice the child. His vehicle ran over the boy. We are currently questioning the accused.”
