The Delhi Police on Wednesday said that 14,000 security personnel would be deployed to guard the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

The police said that in view of the safety and security of the 77,000 invitees, extensive arrangements have been made in place at Kartavya Path.

Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Dependra Pathak said: “We’ll ensure that the Republic Day is celebrated in a flawless and fail-proof way. The Delhi Police is all ready to deal with any kind of immediate situation. It has been Delhi Police’s record to always use the best possible technology to enhance security.”

He added that the police were maintaining strict vigil in “vulnerable areas” of Delhi following the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Monday.

Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Zone II, Madhup Tiwari, said: “We have divided the New Delhi district, where the parade will take place, into 28 zones to ensure security. All of these zones are headed by senior officers.”

HGS Dhaliwal, Special CP, Traffic Zone II, said: “There will be elaborate security checks on January 26, due to the sensitivity of the occasion. In fact, the borders will be sealed on the night from 10 pm of January 25. Heavy transport vehicles and light goods vehicles will be barred, so it should be kept in mind by anyone coming this way, as there will be no movement after 10 pm.”

The Delhi Police also said that parking of vehicles in the parking lots of New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Nizamuddin Railway station and Anand Vihar Railway station would not be allowed from 8 pm on January 25 to 12 pm on January 26. The Delhi Traffic Police also released a traffic advisory for the Republic Day celebration on January 26.
